The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) conducted two operations targeting various locations in the Sultanate, resulting in the detention of three foreign workers.
In a raid on a rented house in Mukim Sengkurong, one foreign national was arrested for moonlighting and not employed according to the job listed in his work pass.
Another operation at a construction site in Mukim Belait led to the arrest of two foreign nationals. One individual was found to be working with an employer different from the one listed on his work pass. The other individual was allegedly employing a foreign worker without the knowledge of the original employer.
In a separate case, Kartika Sari, a 41-year-old Indonesian woman, was sentenced to five months in prison and a fine of BND800 in lieu of caning for overstaying in the Sultanate. She failed to pay the fine and had her sentence extended to six months.
The INRD urged the public to report any suspected immigration offences by contacting the hotline at 8734888 or 8753888 for Bandar Seri Begawan or 8984111 for Belait. – Azlan Othman
