Imams admonish worshippers for indifference towards Friday sermon

“IT IS a great loss for the person who comes late when the Imam has already ascended the Mimbar (pulpit),” Imams said in yesterday’s Friday sermon.

“He is not only missing out on great rewards, but he has also lost the opportunity to do recommended acts of worship on Friday such as reciting Al-Qur’an, repentance, reciting Selawat for Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), remembrance of the dead and so on.

“There are some people who do not listen to the sermon and then there are those who listen to the sermon while sitting in their cars.

“There are also some who do not pay attention to the sermon, because they are chatting, joking, using cell phones and loitering around outside the mosque smoking.

“In addition, there are children who run around and raise a commotion during the sermon. Therefore, parents or guardians need to monitor and watch over their children, so that they won’t do anything that may affect the concentration of other worshippers.

“Indeed, Allah the Almighty has commanded Muslims to take a break from their respective occupations and arrive early at the mosque on Fridays, so that they can hear the sermon and perform the Friday prayers.

“After we perform the Friday prayers, we should take some time to pray and ask Allah the Almighty for forgiveness, salvation, blessings and happiness in this world and in the hereafter.

“We should avail ourselves of the advantage and the opportunity to do more acts of worship on Friday, as it comes only once a week; hopefully, in doing so, we may constantly increase our acts of worship, faith and piety towards Allah the Almighty.

“And may our acts of worship be blessed and accepted by Allah the Almighty.”
