Some 468 individuals were granted Brunei Darussalam citizenship during the 41st Brunei Citizenship Certificate Presentation Ceremony at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.
Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman presented the certificates during the ceremony, officially recognising them as Bruneian citizens.
The recipients of citizenship comprised those who applied for citizenship under Chapter 15 of the Brunei Nationality Act, under Section 5(1) and 8(1) – Malay language written test; Section 6(1) – children with mothers who are Brunei citizens, children with fathers who are Brunei citizens and adopted children to parents holding Brunei citizenship; and Section 5(6) – wives to husbands who are Brunei citizens.
Acting Director of the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) Liza Suriani binti Haji Ibrahim congratulated the recipients of citizenship certificate who were granted the status of citizens by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and hoped that the recipients will pledge their unwavering loyalty and by adhering to the laws and regulations in force in the country. – James Kon
