Hospital ward marks World Children’s Day

The Women and Children Centre, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital yesterday celebrated World Children’s Day.

Head of Department of General Paediatrics and Neonatology at RIPAS Hospital Dr Soon Ing Shian said, “World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as a universal children’s day and is celebrated annually on November 20 to promote international togetherness, awareness among children’s worldwide, and improving children’s welfare.

“This is an important date as in 1953, when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, an international document promoting child rights.

“And on the same day in 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

“This year’s World Children’s Day is themed ‘Equality and Inclusion, for Every Child’, meaning that every child belonging to any society, community or nationality is entitled to equal rights.”

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa.

RIPAS Hospital Chief Executive Officer Abdol Hazis bin Haji Ahad was the guest of honour.

Deputy Medical Superintendant II Pengiran Dr Mohd Bahrin bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, deputy chief executive officers and officers from the hospital also attended.

In conjunction with the event, posters were exhibited at the lobby of the Women and Children Centre.

There was also a poster competition on nurses’ role to improving patient care and safety with the winners announced after being judged by the guests.

SN Noor Ejiah binti Haji Emran from Ward 29 was named the winner with her poster ‘Tips for Administering Medication Safety in Paediatric’.
