Cooperation and holistic solidarity is important especially in facing the COVID-19 pandemic to continue to achieve global health targets and goals, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
The minister said this during the 3rd Asean–China Forum on Health Cooperation recently.
The minister also shared how the sultanate implemented the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Health Strategic Plan 2019-2023 in addressing ageing population, lifestyle related diseases and health surveillance through digital technology through whole of nation approach.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH Dr Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif and several officers from the ministry were also present.
The forum, held on November 24 to 25, was organised by the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China. Minister of National Health Commission of China Dr Ma Xiaowei officiated.
ASEAN health ministers, Asean Secretary-General, World Health Organization (WHO) Director for Western Pacific Region, senior officials and health experts from ASEAN member states and People’s Republic of China participated.
Themed ‘Building an ASEAN-China Community of Health through Solidarity and Cooperation’, the forum focussed on cooperation among ASEAN and the People’s Republic of China’s especially by implementing activities under ASEAN Post-2015 Health Development Agenda (2016-2020).
At the end of the plenary session, the participants passed the 3rd ASEAN-China Forum on Health Cooperation Initiative which underlines the agreement of ASEAN and China to further strengthen cooperation in managing the COVID-19 pandemic, exchange information on non-communicable disease, traditional medicines, healthcare and food safety.
