HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon received in audience Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Kentaro Sonoura.
Accompanying Kentaro Sonoura were Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Motohiko Kato and Director, Second Southwest Asia Division, Southeast and Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Shingo Miyamoto.
Also present were Minister of Defence II as Chairman of the National Security Committee Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force Dato Paduka Seri Haji Mohd Jammy bin Haji Muhd Shah Al-Islam, and Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Pengiran Dato Paduka Seri Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.
Kentaro Sonoura and the delegation are in Brunei Darussalam on a two-day working visit.
The visit aims to further strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as exchange views on bilateral and regional relations of common interest.
Diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and Japan have been established since April 2, 1984. Since then, the two countries have been cooperating extensively in various fields mainly in areas of energy and investment as well as education and people-to-people exchanges in youth and culture.
The audience ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
