HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam last night arrived in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China to attend the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRFIC) which is held today and tomorrow.
Accompanying His Majesty is His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
At the Beijing Capital International Airport, His Majesty was welcomed by Deputy Mayor of Beijing City Lin Fusheng, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong; as well as senior officials from the Chinese government.
Also present to welcome His Majesty were Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah; Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof; and Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in the People’s Republic of China Lee Kok Ting.
His Majesty was presented with a bouquet of flowers and then walked pass a static guard of honour before boarding a motorcade towards a renowned hotel in Beijing where His Majesty would be residing throughout the trip.
Earlier in the day, a Doa Selamat was recited by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned prior to departure from the Istana Nurul Iman.
Present at His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar in Rimba to bid farewell to His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also present at His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar to bid farewell to His Majesty were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria; Cabinet Ministers; members of the Privy Council; deputy ministers; Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; Commissioner of the Royal Brunei Police Force and a representative from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Brunei Darussalam.
The BRFIC is an international cooperation platform established by China to assist the growth and expansion of free trades. This Belt and Road Initiative was built by the spirit of consultation and mutual cooperation for the benefits of all participating countries primarily in the fields of economy, investment and trade, connectivity and empowerment as well as to improve the standard of living of the people.
