Brunei Energy Hub Dermaga Diraja aims to educate the public on the pivotal roles and contribution of the oil and gas industry to the development of the Sultanate, said Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Human Resources Director Hajah Zainab MA Omar yesterday following the launch of the centre by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in the capital.
In line with the national aspiration to repurpose old buildings, the decision was made to transform the Royal Customs and Excise heritage building into a museum.
“We started developing the concept, and felt that it was important to have a venue for the people of Brunei as well as tourists to connect with the history of the Sultanate’s oil and gas industry,” she said.
On the industry’s contribution to the development of Brunei’s economy, Hajah Zainab, who is also the Business Opportunity Manager for Project Brunei Energy Hub, noted, “For 90 years, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Brunei.
“Additionally, we have always been eager to educate the younger generation on the importance of the oil and gas sector.
“We are actively involved in human resource development, and assist local entrepreneurs through business education.
“We have set up Seria Energy Lab to raise awareness on the intricacy of oil and gas,” she said.
