Higher Education Expo goes online

The Higher Education Expo 2021 will go virtual this year, said Head of the Higher Education Division Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee yesterday during a press conference held at the MoE Headquarters.

Running from February 15-21 from 9am-5pm, it will bring together 27 local higher education institutions, education service agencies and related government and private agencies.

Hajah Anis said this is the alternative to the face-to-face expo, to abide by the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) COVID-19 guidelines.

She said this is the sixth Higher Education Expo organised by the MoE. The expo’s focus is to become a one-stop information centre for higher education.

The online expo aims to give the public the opportunity to interact via live chat and video conferencing with expo participants. It will disseminate the different pathway to higher education in the country.

Hajah Anis said 13 public and private higher education institutions and 14 government and private agencies will participate in the expo.

The participants are: Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Politeknik Brunei (PB), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Laksamana College of Business (LCB), Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT), Micronet International College (MIC), Kemuda Institute, BICPA-FTMS Accountancy Academy, Mahakarya Institute of the Arts Asia and HADtech College.

During the event, MoE will provide information on Higher Education Centralised Admission System (HECAS), government scholarships and applications for courses.

The MoE will be represented by the Higher Education Division, Scholarship Division, Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council, Department of Educators Management, Lifelong Learning Centre and Career Development Unit, Schools Department.

Government agencies participating at the expo are: Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA); Youth Development Centre, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS); and the Education Loan Assistance Scheme Unit and the Student Allowance Unit, Treasury Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE).

Private agencies taking part in the event are Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd and education service agencies such as Findlay (B) Sdn Bhd, Paradigm Scholar Agency, HRD Services and MEG Educational Services.

Hajah Anis said the expo will hold activities such as webinars through the Zoom application. Among the webinars are procedure for HECAS, scholarship offers, new programmes by higher educational institutions and success stories from graduates.

The expo is open to the public, especially for secondary and pre-university graduates that took BC GCE ‘O’ Level and ‘A’ Level or equivalent qualification intending to pursue higher education such as the National Technical Education Certificate (NTec), diploma, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and Doctoral degrees, as well as those wanting to upskill and reskill.
