High commission hosts celebration of Malay language

The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam, in collaboration with the Reading and Literacy Association (ReLA) of Brunei and Dato Othman Lambak Kiri Primary School, hosted a Malay Language Month celebration recently at the high commission premises at Kampong Tanah Jambu.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona said it was an honour to host the event, as it promotes linguistic diversity and celebrates the shared heritage between Bangladesh and Brunei.

The high commissioner said language is more than just a means of communication. It is also a reflection of a people’s identity, history, and traditions, she added.

“The Malay language, in all its glory, encapsulates the stories of our ancestors and the journey of our nations.

“By coming together today, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving and promoting this invaluable linguistic heritage,” she said.

“The theme Bersatu dalam Bahasa Melayu, encapsulates the spirit of unity and cooperation that resonates between the two nations.

“The power of language lies not only in its words but also in its ability to connect people, fostering understanding and friendship beyond borders,” said the high commissioner.

“As we commemorate the Malay Language Month, let us also take this opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the diverse linguistic tapestry of Brunei which thrives on its cultural amalgamation. The Malay language plays a pivotal role in uniting us as a people,” she said.

The event also hosted a showcase by students of Dato Othman Lambak Kiri Primary School. – Lyna Mohamad
