Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman participated in the 5th edition of the Borneo Run Half Marathon at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) in Belait District Sunday.
Her Royal Highness competed in the 21.18-kilometre (km) women’s open category.
Dennis Isika from Kenya won the men’s open category after clocking an impressive time of one hour and 15 minutes, followed by Ruzaini Mahadi and Muhammad Amirul Hamdi Jamil.
“This is my first time coming to Brunei, and I like it here because it has great people and a community that supports each other’s efforts, and I enjoy being here in the Borneo Run,” Isika told the Bulletin.
He was proud of his achievement after making extensive preparation for the half-marathon, both physically and mentally.
“For us, it is important to be determined and consistent; and marathons such as this put them to the test, which enables us to grow. I also hope that more support will be given to the local athletes to ensure that guidance is given to develop their skills,” he said.
In the women’s open category, Siaw Khim Tho finished first with a time of one hour and 40 minutes, followed by Erin Ilam and Qimm Chin.
Her Royal Highness presented the prizes to the half marathon winners.
Meanwhile, the women’s 10km run was won by Linda Chin Hui Ching, followed by Noorhanisah binti Haji Abdul Ghani and Aida Syazwana, while Amirul Tuah won the men’s 10km run, followed by Ross Garforth and Md Abdul Akeem Adilah.
Over 350 runners from Brunei, Kenya, Malaysia, Australia and the United Kingdom participated in the annual running event.
