HENGYI Industries has affirmed its full commitment to supporting the aspirations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in achieving 90 per cent of localisation in the oil and gas industry, as laid down in the Bruneisation Directive.
This statement was made yesterday by Chairman of Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co Ltd Qiu Jian Lin in his address during the company’s Chinese New Year celebration at the Royal Berkshire Hall.
Outlining their plans in achieving this goal, Qiu said, “For Phase 1, we aim to provide a total of 1, 665 direct job opportunities. Hengyi Industries is investing heavily in human capital development and training, that allows us to achieve 50 per cent localisation of 832 local jobs from the start of its production.
“As Bruneians develop new skills and have more experience, we plan to increase the localisation efforts by at least five per cent every year, aimed at providing more direct and indirect job opportunities for Bruneians in the coming years.
“In Phase 2, we estimate a total of 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities to be created at PMB (Pulau Muara Besar) that will offer more opportunities for local employment.
Among those present at the festive gathering were Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein and Deputy Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw.
Qiu said that 2019 is a significant year for Hengyi, since it marks the 45th anniversary of its establishment.
“We are working arduously towards achieving an important milestone, which is the operations of the PMB Petrochemical complex in the 3rd quarter of 2019,” he said, adding, “We are confident that this project will significantly boost the nation’s energy downstream industry.
“We also believe that Hengyi Industries will contribute towards Brunei’s long-term economic growth and social development, which will set a solid foundation for the achievement of Brunei Vision 2035.
“Hengyi Industries has always endeavoured to comply with the Local Business Development directives. Currently in the construction phase we have engaged, among others, local businesses in the areas of telecommunications, logistics, security, maintenance, survey works and consultancy.
“During the operations stage, we aim to create more value and opportunities for local companies.”
Also in attendance was the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, as well as members of the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii and Yang Berhormat Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari.
Several stage performances by the students of Chung Hwa Middle School were also held.
