I’m writing in response to the news article, ‘Triple blow for thieving trio’, published in the Bulletin yesterday, regarding three individuals found guilty for stealing copper cable.
While I was glad to see justice served, I had hoped for harsher punishment, especially in the second wave of COVID-19, when connectivity is what keeps the country running, from students learning remotely to employees working from home and the authorities attending virtual meetings.
This is the time for the populace to work together for a greater good. And it’s astounding to me that there are individuals who only think about personal gain. There is an official channel to receive assistance, and these individuals should have opted for it.
I hope the authorities could deter future crimes of similar nature by considering hefty penalties on cable thieves that have been roped.
