Guizhou to relocate 670,000 people to tackle poverty

GUIYANG (Xinhua) – Altogether 670,000 people living in remote and poverty-stricken areas in southwest China’s Guizhou Province will be relocated to more developed communities in 2019, the provincial authorities said at the ongoing annual session of the provincial People’s Congress yesterday.

The province will enhance public services, and provide tailor-made job training courses for them. Local governments also guarantee that at least one family member of a relocated household will be given a job.

Schools, kindergartens and clinics will be set up to ensure a smooth move, provincial authorities said.

The province set the goal to help 1.88 million people shake off poverty by relocation during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020).
