DESPITE the sweltering weather, thousands of well-wishers in Temburong District turned up for the annual Junjung Ziarah in conjunction with the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The atmosphere was exuberant in an otherwise quiet district, as people from various communities gathered at the grounds of the Pekan Bangar Community Hall Complex to greet their beloved monarch.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, in his capacity as the Chairman of the National Executive Committee for His Majesty’s 73rd Birthday Celebration; and Acting Temburong District Officer Abdul Ghani bin Haji Othman.
The monarch was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah.
From the helipad, His Majesty and members of the royal family went to the official residence of the Acting Temburong District Officer, before proceeding to the royal dais at the grounds of the Pekan Bangar Community Hall Complex.
The royal arrival was welcomed with the singing of the national anthem and three shouts of Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik by mukim penghulus, village heads, department heads and the committee members of His Majesty’s 73rd birthday celebration in the Temburong District, known as the Green Jewel of Brunei.
The Acting Temburong District Officer then delivered the Sembah Kesyukuran and Taat Setia, on behalf of the people of Temburong, in which he expressed gratitude and unwavering loyalty towards His Majesty, in addition to well wishes for the monarch’s 73rd birthday.
A special display with the theme of Raja Bertaqwa, Negara Sejahtera was performed by 500 students from primary, secondary and Arabic schools, as well as from the Temburong Youth Artist Club.
The performance highlighted the five aspects of development in the Temburong District in terms of religion, education, sports, economy and entrepreneurship, and as arts and culture.
The main highlight of this year’s display was an art presentation which showcased the district’s progress and unique qualities.
After the performance, which ended with another three shouts of Daulat Kebawah Duli Tuan Patik, His Majesty and members of the royal family toured the grounds of the Pekan Bangar Civic Centre Complex for the Junjung Ziarah.
The first to be given the opportunity to greet His Majesty and other members of the royal family were the student performers, as an acknowledgement of their commitment and hard work in making a success of the special display.
His Majesty and the royal family members then proceeded to greet the thousands of well-wishers who were eagerly waiting for the opportunity to meet their beloved monarch.
During the session, His Majesty also consented to cut a birthday cake presented by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd and Ocean Quarry and Construction Sdn Bhd, which are tasked with the construction of the Temburong Bridge.
After cutting the cake, His Majesty then proceeded to the Santap ceremony.
