Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA) Kuala Belait and Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre impressed judges during the semi-final rounds held at the Ministry of Education (MoE) recently.
The participating teams were Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre, Tutong Sixth Form Centre and Sayyidina Ali Secondary School (SMSA).
The two victors will meet in the debate finals on January 30 at Balai Raya Radio Television Brunei.
The theme for this year’s The Great Discussion is ‘Climate Change’, which aligns with Brunei’s ambition towards a low carbon and climate resilient pathway.
It is also timely, as the United Kingdom will be hosting a vital gathering of world leaders in Glasgow in November for Climate Change Conference (COP26) where they will have to reach agreements on how to address global warming.
“The Great Discussion is a perfect way to initiate the momentum on climate action among our youth leading up to COP26,” said one of the judges from the Climate Change Secretariat Noor Dina Zharina binti Haji Yahya.
The Great Discussion is co-hosted by the Department of Co-Curriculum Education at the MoE and the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam with support from CfBT Education Services and Standard Chartered Bank.
