Graduates begin journey in banking career

Five graduates are set to join Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) as graduate management trainees (GMT) and begin their three-year learning journey prior to confirming their full-time positions at the bank.

Upon joining the bank on July 1, the trainees will be placed under the custodianship of BIBD’s Human Resources and Human Capital Division and be provided with the opportunities to learn the business as well as develop their technical and leadership skills through continuous on-the-job trainings and exposure.

The GMTs were selected after undergoing a rigorous selection process, which saw hundreds of application narrowed down to the final five.

One of the trainees, Muhd Syakir bin Haji Aidil Bahrin, recalled the rigorous selection process as challenging.

“When I first got the call from BIBD informing me that I was selected, I could not believe it as the selection process was tough and there were hundreds of applicants. But Alhamdulillah, I ended being in the final five selected for the programme so I can’t wait to start my career here and contribute to the bank and the nation through what we do at BIBD,” said the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) graduate who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

“The whole GMT selection process was very intense to say the least. I feel that everybody who went through it can understand the kind of calibre that BIBD has. It shows that they are looking for people with the right quality and skills as well as the ability to showcase that in the working environment,” said Lim Li Ling, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from UBD.

“I can’t wait to start and begin my career at the bank, to learn and understand what I’m doing and be involved in the bank’s other activities such as its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, to keep learning from my colleagues and bring positive change to this prestigious institution,” she added.

“With the opportunities that lie in the banking industry, I am excited to learn more about the industry and obtain as much knowledge as I can during my three-year training. I am looking forward to my personal development and a wonderful career at BIBD,” said another trainee, Awangku Mohd Salihuddin bin Pengiran Jamaludin who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from UBD.

The graduates were introduced to BIBD Managing Director and CEO Mubashar Khokhar along with members of the BIBD’s senior management team at an engagement session last Friday.

The session provided them with the opportunities to get an insight of BIBD’s working environment, different business functions and roles, leaders’ vision, and expectations.
