A Vehicles Department administrative clerk was sentenced to eight months’ jail by the Intermediate Court yesterday after he changed his plea from contesting the Criminal Breach of Trust charge to guilty.

Azman bin Haji Mohamad/Haji Ahmad, 49, who allegedly committed the offence was attached to the Land Transport Department Training and Driving Test Circuit Complex in Sungai Akar between February 11 and March 14, 2019, involving BND565 paid to him by the public for driving licence renewals.

DPP Dayangku Didi-Nuraza binti Pengiran Haji Latiff’s facts of the case stated that the defendant had stood in for a colleague and abused the receipt book he was given.

A police report was lodged on April 9, 2019 by an employee of the Land Transport Department after finding discrepancies which were discovered by audit. The defendant was subsequently investigated.

The Commercial Crime Investigations Unit of the RBPF showed that the defendant misappropriated the cash totalling BND565 he had received when he was covering for his colleague.

Judge Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni gave the defendant’s circumstances before passing the sentence and said that “the inevitable results of the offence would lead to the defendant losing his job with the civil service. This would cause hardship to the family but hardship is not something that should affect the court in giving sentence”.
