Head of the Counselling Division at the Ministry of Education Haji Ali Yusri bin Haji Abdul Ghafor yesterday explored how work can significantly impact mental health.
In his key presentation during the fifth session of the Knowledge Convention Seminar 2024 at Musyawarah Hall, International Convention Centre, Berakas yesterday, Haji Ali Yusri highlighted issues such as job dissatisfaction stemming from roles that do not align with one’s academic qualifications or field of expertise, as well as limited career options.
He also focused on the detrimental effects of a non-conducive and unhealthy work environment, including strained relationships with colleagues.
Acting Assistant Director of the Differently-Abled Persons Division of the Community Development Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Irnawati binti Haji Mahir, emphasised the various phases of change employees experience in the workforce.
Noting that these transitions can affect work productivity, she urged employees to prioritise maintaining good mental health to ensure sustained productivity and performance.
Lecturer from Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies , Universiti Brunei Darussalam Dr Nur Amali bin Aminuddin delivered a presentation on ‘Applying the Ihsan Self-Regulation Model: Enhancing Workplace Mental Health Through Al-Takhalli, Al-Tahalli, and Al-Tajalli’.
Dr Nur Amali elaborated on the Ihsan Self-Regulation Model, an Islamic-based framework designed to address contemporary challenges across various domains, particularly in workplace mental health.
The model offers a holistic approach that integrates Islamic concepts with modern psychological perspectives to promote mental well-being in professional settings.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha was the guest of honour.
Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy (Fiscal) Pengiran Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Zety Sufina binti Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Sani was also present.
As mental health becomes an increasingly pressing issue both globally and in Brunei Darussalam, the Knowledge Convention 2024 themed ‘Addressing Mental Symptoms’, aims to raise awareness, foster understanding and encourage proactive actions to tackle mental health challenges within the community. – Rokiah Mahmud
