    GLCs, FDIs vital for economic recovery

    Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah yesterday announced the deliberation on the budget plan for the fiscal year 2023/2024 where its second focus is on an inclusive and sustainable recovery of the Sultanate.

    At yesterday’s meeting of the 19th Legislative Council session, the minister reiterated that it will include government-linked companies (GLCs) and foreign direct investments (FDIs) in aiding the government to make significant investments for the development of the economy.

    One of the FDI projects is Anson International Sdn Bhd, which builds and operates a facility for marine maintenance and decommissioning yard, while, FDI venture Regional East Malaysia Services will span the services of a container feeder vessel able to hold 930 20-foot equivalent units enabling Muara Port to be developed.

    The Brunei Bay Southern Anchorage is set to pave the way for more local employment opportunities.

    The minister also shared more developments in FDIs including Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd, which has created 3,900 jobs.

    Brunei Fertilizer Industries Sdn Bhd has also recorded a profit of USD322 million.
