Girls gearing up for science competition

Twenty all-girl science teams will be preparing for the Seria Energy Lab’s (SEL) Women in Science competition to be held over the school holidays.

The three-member teams had been selected by the SEL based on proposal submissions and will undergo a boot camp from March 15 to March 17.

According to SEL, the competition will test the student’s science competency and knowledge on sustainable development goals (SDG).

The competition format included partipants submitting a project propoal with themes related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) or SDGs.

The three-day boot camp will comprise workshops, parallel sessions, motivational talks and will be concluded with a physical activity exercise ‘Race to Solutions’.

The workshop sessions aim to guide participants in enhancing their project proposal and strategy development.

Facilitators from LiveWIRE Brunei and Brunei Shell Joint Venture Women Infocus Network (WiN) will also be conducting parallel sessions during the boot camp.

The sessions, which participants must select based on their interest, will cover topics such as business and entrepreneurship, digitalisation in project management, in depth information on SDGs and project pitching.

In the next stage of the WIS competition, the top three participating teams will be given a grant of BND300 to execute their projects from August until December.

The project that creates the most impact on their target community and have the highest rate of return on investment will be selected as Women in Science and Female Ambassadors for SEL.

The finals and award ceremony for SEL WIS competition 2021 is expected to take place in December, said the organiser in a statement.
