Around 150 members from the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD) participated in the Girl Guides Care Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 14 and 15 cleaning campaign at Muara Beach yesterday with over 20 bags of waste being collected.
The campaign, themed ‘Save the Environment’, was one of the activities carried out in conjunction with PPPBD’s 15th Community Day and International Youth Day celebrations.
PPPBD Deputy Chief of Commissioner Hajah Viviyanti binti Haji Mohd Ali launched the campaign.
Among the objectives of the event was to promote and support SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 15 (Life On Land) and to raise awareness on the importance of keeping the environment clean in bid to preserve land and sea ecosystems.
The campaign was also held to instil an understanding of teamwork in the younger generation and promote community service as way of helping people.
Aside from the campaign, association members also donated food to the underprivileged as part of its community activities under its Titian Kasih Project.
PPPBD Community Day is celebrated every July 26 to commemorate community service works and projects carried out by the association’s members. – James Kon
