Girl guides feted for excellence

A two-day community programme for girl guides and rangers ended with an award  ceremony at the Sports Village, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

The programme was organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through the Uniforms and Community Services Unit, Department of Co-Curriculum Education in collaboration with the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD).

Fifty-seven girl guides from seven secondary schools and sixth form centres as well as four primary schools from the MoE and Ministry of Religious Affairs participated.

Chief Commissioner of PPPBD Hajah Siti Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim presented the prizes.

Dayangku Siti Nazirah binti Pengiran Aliuddin won the best participant award for the girl guides and ranger category while Dayangku Naurah Syifa binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman won the best participant award for the junior girl guides category.

Meanwhile Team Mawar won the best group in the girl guides and ranger category while Team Teratai and Team Matahari were placed second and third.

Team Rambutan won the best group in the junior girl guides category. Team Durian and Team Jambu placed second and third.

The programme aims to produce individuals who are skilled, self-confident and courageous.

Among the activities in the programme were an amazing race, singing and movement as well as sewing to produce products.
