Freelance videographer Muhammad Aqil Faiz bin Abdullah – the Road Safety Video Competition champion – is no stranger to winning contests. Last year, he won a competition organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). This year, besides receiving BND2,000 and a certificate as the contest winner, Muhammad Aqil Faiz also took home BND500 for being top in the Popular Video category with the most likes on the Instagram platform of the Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council (MKKJR).

The contest was organised by MKKJR and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC). The prize presentation ceremony was held at the ministry’s Amar Pahlawan Hall yesterday.

Muhammad Aqil Faiz’s video captured a woman texting while driving and knocking down a young student walking along a zebra crossing towards his father.

Muhammad Aqil Faiz said, “I am really happy to win this competition. I didn’t expect to win and I also didn’t know that my video received the most likes. I did my best and I hope that I can further improve in my future projects. I do short films and if there is a competition, I always join.”

On the winning video, he said, “It took around a week to complete, including pre-production, production and post production. I did some survey online for the video shooting and the storyline was part of my experience as I always see people on the phone while driving and not concentrating on the road. ”

Second place winner Muhammad Nazmi Zikry bin Haji Joharry received BND1,500 and a certificate of appreciation. Third place winner Cahaya binti Harlif won BND1,000 and a certificate.

Consolation prizes and certificates were presented to the 17 best videos, and souvenirs to the judges.

Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MTIC Pengiran Haji Mohd Zain bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Razak who is also the MKKJR Secretary presented the prizes.
