Free training to spearhead hospitality career

The Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Secretariat, in collaboration with Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), will conduct the Continuing Education and Training (CET) Programme for kitchen assistants and restaurant attendants.

The training fee will be borne by the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the 11th National Development Plan (RKN 11).

The programme is open to locals wishing to start their career in the hospitality industry through the two roles that are highly demanded by the industry. Those aged 18 and above with an Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) level qualification and below are eligible to join the programme.

The CET programme aims to generate job-ready and competent locals aligned with industry demand as well as increase localisation of workforce to reduce unemployment in the country.

Participants will go through basic skills training at the IBTE School of Hospitality and Tourism complemented with on-the-job training at host companies where they will be employed. The four-week programme starts on February 24 and is targetted to cater for 40 participants.

Prior to the training, participants are required to attend walk-in interviews with companies from the industry where they will be offered a conditional offer of employment (COE).

Additional incentives will be given to those who continue to work for the host companies for three years. To promote the CET programme, the MPEC Secretariat and IBTE, will organise a two-day engagement session on January 27-28 at JobCentre Brunei (JCB), Beribi.

The session’s objective is to share with the public the courses offered and their benefits as well as to increase awareness on opportunities on the job market.

The engagement will be followed by walk-in interview sessions with nine companies – GK Restaurant, Restoran WYWY, Blue Restaurant, De Coral Restaurant and Catering Services, Bristodeli Café, Hot Point, Semporna Enak, Infinitea Food & Beverages and Pondok Sari Wangi Restaurant.

Jobseekers are encouraged to attend the walk-in interview sessions on February 3-4 at JCB, with morning sessions at 8.30-11.30am and afternoon sessions at 2-4pm.

The interview sessions are also open to eligible members of the public not present during the engagement.
