Thirty-one students from Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam participated in a haircut charity activity organised by IA Salon, marking the salon’s first community extension programme.
The half-day charity event was held on November 22 at Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam in Kampong Bengkurong. IA Salon’s team of hairdressers provided free haircut services to the students and staff. Parents and caregivers were encouraged to accompany their children during the haircut.
“I would like to thank IA Salon for conducting this charity event. This initiative is a huge help for us because, most of the time, we face rejection from some hair salons due to our child’s condition,” said a parent of a participating student.
The charity event was initiated by IA Salon’s founder, Cecilia Lee who said, “This is not my first time providing free haircut services to Pusat Ehsan and other non-profit organisations. Years ago, we conducted similar events. Our hair stylists are trained to use gentle techniques, show patience and ensure a positive and enjoyable haircut experience.”
She added, “I treasure the opportunities given to me and my team to raise awareness about Down syndrome and autism. I have immense respect for parents who devote their love, time, attention and commitment to their children with special needs. I know the journey is challenging, but seeing the smiles on their faces gives me fulfilment and the drive to continue.”
Meanwhile, Head of Administration at Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Nurul Huda binti Awang Haji Muhin said, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to IA Salon for the sponsorship of free haircuts for our students and staff. This initiative is particularly meaningful for our special needs students, who often face challenges in accessing inclusive and patient haircare services. This collaboration is a powerful example of how community partnerships can break barriers and create positive change.”
