THE Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) held a press briefing in Beribi yesterday, urging all laundry owners to comply with the Fire Safety Order 2016, particularly in the use of LPG gas cylinders before applying for a Fire Certificate and Support Letter.

The press briefing was led by a Senior Superintendent at the FRD Taib bin Haji Abdul Kahar, who also stressed that all proprietors must be aware of the maintenance procedures in fire safety before getting an approval to start a business.

To date, the FRD’s Fire Safety Section has inspected 39 laundries across the country, where it was found that 22 had failed to comply with the fire safety requirements of the Brunei Darussalam Standard 12 (2014) / PBD 12 (2014).

Any business owners found in contravention of these rules will be charged under the Fire Safety Order 2016.

The press briefing ended with a presentation of Fire Certificates to several laundry owners, for successfully complying with the Fire Safety Order 2016.
