Two individuals have been awarded for their bravery and swift action in preventing the spread of a fire in two separate incidents.
Retired Fire and Rescue officer Budin bin Haji Salleh received a Community Service certificate on Thursday for helping curb a fire from spreading at a home at Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme on January 7.
Budin received the certificate from Deputy Commanding Officer of Operation ‘C’ Branch Superintendent Haji Mustapa bin Haji Mohamad and Operation ‘C’ Branch officers.
Budin, a relative of the home owner, fetched buckets of water to douse flames that had spread to the wall and ceiling, triggered by a lit aromatherapy candle left burning on a rattan table. The firefighters arrived soon after.
Meanwhile, Haji Matasim bin Haji Bolhassan was also awarded a Communal Service certificate on Thursday for putting out a fire at his Kampong Sungai Kang, Lumut home on January 4.
Acting Commanding Officer of Operation ‘B’ Branch of the Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) Senior Superintendent Mohd Shazwan bin Suhanie lauded Haji Matasim quick thinking and action in putting out the electrical panel board fire at his home with the help of a fire extinguisher.
The FRD advised the public to ensure that electrical appliances are not overloaded and that all wirings are in good condition.
Buildings and residences should also be equipped with safety equipment (fire extinguisher, fire blanket or smoke detector) to combat fires before they spread.
