FRD received six calls on collapsed houses

The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) received six emergency calls regarding collapsed houses this year, compared to four last year.

The department advised the public to ensure residences are equipped with safety equipment such as ‘dry powder’ fire extinguishers, fire blankets and battery operated smoke detector.

The installation of wiring and electrical equipment at homes should be carried out by qualified workers, added FRD.

Electrical equipment should be switched off after use or before leaving the house, said the department while urging homeowners to check their residences regularly to ensure their structural integrity.
