Fourteen veteran athletes participate in KL meet

Fourteen Brunei Darussalam veteran athletes left the country recently to participate in the International Masters Athletics Championships 2022 at University Malaya Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The male athletes are Captain (Rtd) Haji Osman Lahab; Haji Ariffin bin Abdullah; Idris bin Haji Asmad/Asmat; Lim Beng Hock; Omar bin Kahar; Haji Safri/Tiang bin Haji Mudin; Budin anak Meringgai; Marznimurney bin Abdullah; Ampuan Mohammad Abdul Khifli Ampuan Haji Damit; Pengiran Amir Isa bin Pengiran Sabtu; and Haji Shahri bin Haji Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the female athletes are Hajah Mariah Haji Metussin, Jubidah binti Haji Zunaidi and Siti Diah binti Jani.

The Bruneian team will be involved across 34 track and field events including 100m, 200m, long jump, 3km walk and 100m hurdle events.

The country will also be taking part in the field events including discuss, javelin and shot put led by the female athletes. The age group of the participants range from 55-59 years to 80-83 years. The athletes performed under the banner of the Brunei Association of Veteran Athletes (PVAB).

Meanwhile, a flag-handing over ceremony to the delegation was held at the Brunei International Airport in Berakas prior to departure on Friday.

Nur Iffah Natasha Sofea Abdullah on behalf of the Chief Youth and Sports Officer handed the flag to a delegation representative.

PVAB Secretary I Haji Abu Bakar bin Haji Pungut and Secretary II Abdul Karim bin Haji Ahmad also saw the team off.
