Four-step process keeps all safe

The theme for TotalEnergies World Day for Safety event this year is ‘Technological Risks: Everyone’s Involved, Everyone has a role!’, said TotalEnergies Brunei Health, Safety, and Environment Manager Hajah Salawati binti Kassim during TotalEnergies Brunei celebration of the World Day for Safety 2023 event as well as its milestone of 24 years without Lost Time Incident (LTI) recently.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour.

Hajah Salawati highlighted how technological risks in the energy industry could have an impact on people, the environment, and assets. To manage this, TotalEnergies has a four-step process which are to identify the hazards, assess risks, define barriers, and implement and maintain barriers.

TotalEnergies Brunei General Manager and Country Chair Jerome Saniez in his welcoming remarks said, that everyone is concerned by technological risks. The management of Technological Risk is of great importance to prevent any catastrophic events from happening. This was followed by the presentation of the 24 years zero LTI award to the Onshore Processing Plant (OPP) team and the World Day for Safety Award to three winners – Tujoh, Lee Yun Choi and Pengiran Syazwan – for winning the Best Improvement Card Award for the year 2022 and James Chiew for the Most Raised Improvement Card in 2022.

The guest of honour viewed the static display from the different work disciplines on site featuring the various types of safety barriers or tools used to prevent any incidents from happening.

The World Day for Safety is an event recognised by the United Nations to create awareness and promote safety and health at work.

It is celebrated globally on April 28 and observed by the International Labour Organization to highlight the prevention of accidents and diseases at work.
