The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued fines of BND100 each on two foreigners for littering at Lumut-Liang Highway rest stop during its Ops Hijau 1/2021yesterday.
Meanwhile, Shobhana Devi Vijaya and Muhiyudden Sarin Salim were found disposing cigarette butts in a public area in Kuala Belait.
The agency said the offences were in violation of Section 12 (1)(a) Chapter 30 of the Minor Offences Act and the individuals were given seven days to settle the fine, failing of which will result in a further fine of BND1,000 or one month’s imprisonment.
Subsequent offences will see an increase in penalty to BND3,000 or imprisonment of no more than three months.
The public are urged to dispose of waste and unwanted items in designated areas, to maintain cleanliness of the environment.
The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board regularly conducts patrols, in ensuring the proper disposal of waste in dedicated sites such as the disposal centres for commercial use at Pasarneka Kuala Belait and Gerai Bunga Simpur.
