The International Women’s Club of Brunei (IWCB) and Australian High Commission in Brunei Darussalam are jointly organising the Special International Women’s Day forum to mark International Women’s Day tomorrow at the Mutiara Ballroom of the Radisson Hotel with support of female heads of mission in Brunei Darussalam and senior Bruneian women leaders.
International Women’s Day is an annual even on March 8 to celebrate the social economic, cultural and political achievements and contributions of women. This year’s global theme is #ChooseToChallenge.
The event will commence with a welcome speech by IWCB President Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah binti Haji Osman followed with a keynote International Women’s Day address and officiating of the Special International Women’s Day forum by High Commissioner of Australia to Brunei Darussalam Tiffany McDonald.
The forum will be divided into two panels of speakers who will discuss topics ranging from the importance of marking International Women’s Day, issues women face, gender specific challenges faced by women in their careers and women in leadership roles.
The first panel comprises Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam Yu Hong, High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei Darussalam Jeanette Stovel, Tiffany McDonald and cake designer, restaurateur and spouse of the Attorney General of Brunei Darussalam Faridah binti Yussof.
The second panel comprises Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brunei Darussalam Gerda Winkler, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Darussalam Yoon Hyun-bong, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Brunei Darussalam Homeira Rigi Zirouki and former diplomat, entrepreneur and spouse of the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Hajah Noorafzah Khatijah binti Dato Paduka Haji Ahmad.
The event will be attended by some 100 women comprising the club’s honorary members from various embassies and high commissions in the country and club members.
