Forum highlights importance of religious teachings, parenting skills

Religious education and good parenting skills are among the key to shaping a harmonious family, said Acting Senior Religious Officer at Islamic Da’wah Centre Hajah Zunainah binti Haji Gunong during a Family Day forum on ‘Empowering Family Institution’ at the official residence of the Tutong District Office yesterday.

She also said, “The husband plays a crucial role in being the role model for the family. He ought to set an example for his children to follow, including values based on Islamic teachings.”

Organised by Pekan Tutong Mukim Consultative Council, the forum also saw Empowerior Counselling Chief Executive Officer Major (Rtd) Haji Rosli bin Bujang underline the importance of prioritising the hereafter and orienting one’s current life towards the destination.

He also noted that today’s children are more homebound and dependent on their gadgets.

While technology has influenced the way children interact and communicate with others, “we as parents must learn to draw the line, such as no gadgets during meal time”.

Other issues that Major (Rtd) Haji Rosli touched on include mental health issues being widespread due to the lack of sleep and leading an inactive lifestyle.

Among the attendees at the forum was Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri. – Azlan Othman
