First-time parents learnt the benefits of exclusively breastfeeding infants at a ‘Step Up for Breastfeeding’ forum at the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital in Kuala Belait yesterday.

Speakers shared their expertise with the parents, highlighting both mental and physical benefits of breastfeeding.

Religious teacher at the hospital Norfazillah binti Safar spoke on the importance of breastfeeding from an Islamic perspective.

Meanwhile, Consultant Paediatrician Dr Rosmawati binti Mat Ali highlighted the importance of skin contact between newborns and their parents.

The forum also saw the hospital’s Maternal and Child Health Clinic’s Queenita anak Luta speak on the clinic’s role in promoting breastfeeding infants exclusively as well as its health benefits.

The talks were moderated by a member of the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital nursing staff Haji Mohd Reduan bin Abdul Fata.

The forum aimed at supporting first-time parents with information on breastfeeding as well as their key role in raising and caring for their newborn children.

Parents were also given an opportunity to ask the panel questions, and tour an exhibition to learn more on breastfeeding.

The wife of the hospital’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dayangku Fa’aezah Nordzaryah binti Pengiran Haji Tajuddin was the guest of honour.
