Forum discusses tips for a successful family life

Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) through the Fiqh al-Usrah Research Centre organised the Hiwar Fiqh al-Usrah ceremony at the Tarbiyyah Hall of the university college yesterday.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Yussof was the guest of honour.

The forum themed ‘Nafkah dan Tanggungjawab Suami Isteri dalam Konteks Dunia Moden’ focussed on challenges in handling family affairs in the aspect of family, community and dakwah.

The panellists were Religious Officer at the Syariah Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs Hanif bin Haji Sha’ari, Lecturer at the Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Dr Hajah Ummi Fa’izah binti Haji Abdul Rahman, Community Development Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Nurul Nazurah binti Jaya and KUPU SB PhD student Pengiran Haji Muhammad Firdaus bin Pengiran Haji Rosman as the moderator.

Hanif bin Haji Sha’ari explained that the main foundation of a happy family in Islam is the husband and wife who take care of their rights and responsibilities.

He said among the responsibilities of a husband to his wife include good communication, patience with his wife’s attitude and accepting her weaknesses, and giving her dowry.

The responsibility of a wife is to obey her husband, manage the household, and respect the husband and self-respect, he added.

Meanwhile Nurul Nazurah said that the Community Development Department (JAPEM) had received family cases involving ‘nafkah’ and responsibilities issues, and highlighted the roles of the JAPEM.

Dr Hajah Ummi Fa’izah discussed about the purpose of marriage in Islam including help create a good community, ‘qudwah hasanah’ as well as to help realising the Zikir Nation.

The forum aimed to provide understanding and raise awareness among the community on the importance obligations of nafkah, responsibilities of the husband and wife, and at the same time acted as a platform in disseminating knowledge and guidance related with families.

It was also held in support of the objective of Fiqh al-Usrah establishment at the KUPU SB as a channel to provide academic service and contribution towards the development of family in Brunei Darussalam.

Ra’es of KUPU SB Dr Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, directors, officers and staff members from government agencies, key officials and lecturers of KUPU SB as well as school principals and students of the college university were also present.
