A Bangladeshi duo who were in possession of smuggled cigarettes were ordered to settle BND26,400 and BND20,000 fines by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered Abdul Qadir, 40, and Azadul, 34, to serve 13 months’ jail in default of payment after they pleaded guilty of possessing 33 and 25 cartons of various cigarette brands.
The Customs prosecutor informed court that Customs preventive officers inspected the defendants’ work quarters in Kampong Badas, Seria at 3pm on February 21 leading to their findings of the cigarettes. The court ordered the cigarettes destroyed.
