A Bangladeshi man who was in possession of smuggled cigarettes at his home was ordered to settle a BND5,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered Somsu Mia, 40, to serve five months’ jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to possessing four cartons and a packet of cigarettes.
The court heard that the discovery was made when Customs preventive officers inspected the defendant’s house at Kampong Anggerek Desa at 3.25pm on May 31.
