A foreign woman was apprehended by the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), Kuala Belait Branch during an operation on Saturday.
According to the department, the woman was believed to have violated the visitor pass under Section 9 (4) Chapter 17 of the Immigration Act.
The sponsor for the woman was also issued with a letter and ordered to go to the law enforcement office for further questioning.
The department reminded visitors and tourists that it is illegal to take any paid job with a government or private office, and to obey the Immigration Act and Regulations while in the country.
The department said if a social visit pass holder or tourist is found to be participating in any form of paid employment in the country, the individual is liable to imprisonment of no more than six month or a fine of no more than BND2,000.
The department welcomes the public to provide any information related to immigration offenders.
