Foreign national pleads guilty to DUI, fined BND4,000

A foreign national who pleaded guilty to driving under the influence yesterday, was disqualified from driving for three years and fined BND4,000 or serve four weeks’ jail in default by Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Magistrate’s Court.

Police Prosecution Unit brought forward the accused to BSB Magistrate’s Court to face the charge of Section 26(1)(a), Chapter 68 of the Road Traffic Act which is the offence for driving under the influence.

Prior to this, the accused Eveline anak Jampi, 49, was involved in a three-vehicle accident at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway.

The Police Prosecution Unit also found that it was the second time that the accused had committed such an offence.

Based on the investigation, the accused is believed to have consumed several glasses of intoxicating drinks and couldn’t properly operate a vehicle resulting in an accident.

The accused pleaded guilty based on the alcohol content in a blood sample of 382.98 milligramme per millilitres, which was three times the limit.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Hayati binti Tassim from Police Prosecution Unit while Magistrate Mohd Marzuqi bin Sabtu presided over the case.
