The adaptation of the classical Victorian literature, Jane Eyre premiered at the multipurpose hall at the Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).
The theatrical drama was organised by UTB in collaboration with the Brunei Reading and Language Acquisition Project (ReLA) and the High Commission of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam.
Twenty-five local youth, students, and alumni from various educational institutions, including UTB, Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, Chung Hwa Middle School and St Andrew’s School were involved in the production.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin was the guest of honour.
Diplomats from various embassies, government officials and parents were also present.
ReLA President Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid, in a speech, said the stage performance was aimed at developing the talents of local youth and encouraging them to become part of the global citizens and leaders in creativity and innovation.
Another objective was to generate interest among students in English literature.
RELA is a non-government organisation that works on developing literacy and reading skills among the youth and support the literacy aspirations of the Ministry of Education in Brunei.
