AMONG the sea of people joining in the National Day celebrations at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday morning were more than a handful of tourists. Many of them had planned their visit to Brunei Darussalam to coincide with the occasion.
One such group was a 22-person delegation from Medan, Indonesia led by Hajah Elida binti Musa and Hajah Emmy Lubis.
They shared how their group specifically chose to visit Brunei around this time in hopes of witnessing the celebration.
“It is a beautiful moment to bear witness to the occasion and watch the people of this country come together to celebrate their National Day,” Hajah Elida said.
“We planned since late October last year to visit Brunei, and after knowing of the National Day celebration, decided to visit around the period when it is taking place and to join in on the colourful festivities.”
For Hajah Emmy, the celebration stirred up a warm feeling of brotherhood with Bruneians.
“We especially found it unique to watch the celebrations with the people of Brunei with whom we felt a deep sense of kinship, as we both share some common culture and language. We really enjoyed the visit to the peaceful country,” she shared with the Sunday Bulletin.
