Innovation and technology are encouraging more women to become innovators and sustainable entrepreneurs, said Acting Director of the Community Development Department Fauziah binti Haji Mohd Salleh during a Women in Tech (W-IT) Forum held in conjunction with International Women’s Day yesterday.
She said the forum celebrated and engaged knowledgeable women in digital, innovation and information technology (IT) fields by involving all levels of society through the whole-of-nation approach.
The acting director expressed hope that the forum had raised awareness on the beneficial and safe use of technology.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad was the guest of honour at the forum organised in collaboration with Women Techmakers Brunei.
Over 110 people participated in the forum at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.
Ambassador of Women Techmakers Brunei Saedah binti Haji Hasnal moderated the forum with panel members – Chairperson of InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB) and Co-Chair of Manpower Industry Steering Committee for ICT Sector (MISC IT) Pengiran Sarimah binti Pengiran Haji Abdul Latiff; Progresif Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar; and Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre student Aleeya Farhanah binti Haji Mohd Azim who won Brunei ICT Awards 2021 and Asia Pacific ICT Awards 2023.
The event concluded with the minister presenting certificates of appreciation to the moderator and panel members.
Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Haji Mohd Yusra bin Haji Mohd Salleh and Universiti Teknologi Brunei Vice-Chancellor Datin Paduka Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman were also present.
