    Focus on regional issues at courtesy call

    Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib yesterday received a courtesy call from the recently-appointed Secretary General of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman at the LegCo building.

    Among the matters raised during the courtesy call was the main strategy of the AIPA structure regarding the authority of the role of Speaker of the ASEAN Parliaments in relation to the issues agreed at the AIPA General Assembly.

    This included resolving regional issues frequently raised by the public and channelled to the Parliaments.

    The Secretary General of AIPA said she will always support and cooperate with ASEAN in addressing regional and international issues.

    Speaker of the LegCo and the Secretary General of AIPA also exchanged views on approaches toward improving the organisation of AIPA, especially in terms of the entry of observer countries.

    Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman conveyed his congratulations to Siti Rozaimeriyanty on her appointment as Secretary General of AIPA.

    Also in attendance was Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council and Clerk to Councils Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Judin bin Haji Asar.

    Brunei Darussalam has taken over the responsibility of the position as the Sixth Secretary General of the AIPA starting January 1, 2023 for a duration of three years placed in Jakarta, Indonesia.
