The issue of the high rate of flooding in the Tutong District was raised by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya’akub during the 19th LegCo session yesterday.

He highlighted that over time, the issue of flooding will cause several concerns, such as disruption to development and generating fear and panic among the people in the district.

Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin called for the construction of flood reservoirs.

Areas suggested by Yang Berhormat Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin were Kampong Keriam, Pekan Tutong, Kampong Bukit and Kampong Rambai.

He also asked Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid about the long-term plans to tackle flooding in the district.

The minister acknowledged the issue and stated that studies have identified several flood-prone areas in Tutong, adding that several projects are in motion, which include the construction of a pump system to aid in the prevention of flooding.

The minister said currently, two flood reservoirs are in construction in Sungai Padang and Sungai Kiudang which are set to be completed next year.
