UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB), in collaboration with TEDxGadong team, organised the inaugural Technology, Entertainment, Design (TEDx) Talk at the Lecture Theatre 3, Library Complex, UTB recently.
UTB staff and students as well as students from other institutions including members of the public were present.
The speakers were Edwin Lim from Soapboxer Company, who presented on ‘Business Communication for Millenials’; researcher and writer Abdul Malik Omar, on ‘History and Uses of Philosophy in the Advancement of Global Society in the 21st Century and Beyond’; engineer and President of Oil Town Talkers Toastmasters Club Hayati binti Kamis, on ‘Leadership Defined by A Millenial’; PhD candidate from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Bacha Rehman, on ‘A Journey to the Deep Learning Algorithms for Facial Expression Recognition’; and Mohd Zulhilmi bin Zainal from Icon Marketing Consultancy, on ‘Social Media in Brunei: A Horrifying Beast or A Majestic Animal?’.
The event aimed to introduce the TEDx platform to the UTB community following the spirit of TED’s mission of spreading ideas through a series of short, concise talks, demonstrations and performances that are idea-focussed and cover an extensive range of subjects that will facilitate learning, inspiration and spark conversations that matter.
It also supports UTB’s mission towards nurturing socially responsible talents, and building a global and entrepreneurial society towards the fulfilment of Brunei Vision 2035.
