Five foreign workers were nabbed during an Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) operation conducted by enforcement personnel targetting foreigners offering tree-cutting, moving and disposal services using lorries registered under companies in the country.

The operation was conducted in two areas in Mukim Mentiri where five foreign nationals were found committing offences under Chapter 17 of Regulation 15(3) of the Immigration Act and Regulations for not being employed according to jobs registered in their work pass.

The INRD in a press statement reminded the public that foreign citizens caught committing crimes and found guilty will be deported and their names blacklisted.

The department said the violation of immigration pass is punishable by imprisonment of no more than six months or a BND2,000 fine or both. Employers hiring or harbouring immigration offenders will be fined BND3,000 for each offender.
