The Law Enforcement Division of the Department of Labour found five violations under the Employment Order, 2009 while carrying out Operasi Siaga 271/2024 for electrical appliances business activities in Kampong Lambak on December 4.

The offences included Section 112(2) violation of Foreign Worker License (LPA) where the foreign workers were found to carry out technician and clerical works instead of labour as stated in their work passes; Section 71 for failing to provide annual leave to employees; Section 65 where employees worked more than the set working hours; Section 63 for failing to provide an off day; and Section 39(2) for failing to pay overtime.

Employers are liable to be compounded not more than BND1,000 for each offence violating the Employment Order, 2009. The failure to settle the fine will result in the employer prosecuted in court.

The Department of Labour reminded employers to always monitor their employees welfare in alignment with the Employment Order, 2009 requirements such as observing the LPA, providing paid annual leave, providing one off day per week and to pay overtime hours.
