    Five foreigners nabbed for immigration offences

    The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD), through its Law Enforcement Division nabbed five foreigners in separate operations in Brunei-Muara and Belait districts recently.

    A foreigner was arrested and taken to the Law Enforcement Division during an operation at a house in Mukim Berakas ‘B’ and a rented room in Mukim Mentiri.

    The individual was arrested for not working under the actual employer and for overstaying in the country.

    Meanwhile, another foreign national was arrested and taken to the agency for not working with the actual employer during an operation at Mukim Seria.

    Three foreign nationals out of 20 were detained during an operation at rented rooms and houses in Mukim Lumapas and Mukim Kilanas. One foreigner was found not working with the actual employer and overstaying, while the other two were arrested for overstaying.

    One of the arrested individuals, Lisna Ariyatna, a 52-year-old Indonesian woman was sentenced to a six-month jail term and a BND800 fine in-lieu of whipping for overstaying.

    She failed to pay the fine and her prison sentence was extended to seven months.

    The prosecution was made before Magistrate Harnita Zelda Skinner and conducted by INRD Prosecuting Officer Hadiyatul Majeedah binti Awang Usin.
