Fitness Zone cruise to 115-71 victory

Fitness Zone cruised to an emphatic 115-71 victory over Klimzon Engineering in the You-C1000 Basketball Cup at the Brunei Basketball Association Court in Batu Bersurat last night.

The Group ‘B’ candidate enhanced their chances of getting out of a tough group and have made a winning start as they bid to go far in the tournament.

Fitness Zone team captain Alvin Goh enjoyed a scoring spree in the opening periods of the game having contributed 10 out of his team’s first 14 points of the match.

Lim Liang Wei inspired the team’s victory with a 26-point performance with teammate Lim Jin Yuan equally instrumental with 22 points under his belt.

Alvin also put in a good shift as team captain after capping a fine performance with 17 points.

Brunei celebrity figure Wu Chun, who was part of the championship-winning side in 2019, is also part of the current Fitness Zone team who will be eying for the top prize.

Fitness Zone joined title contenders Easyway Basketball as the early pace-setters in Group ‘B’ with the latter also in fine form after a 102-67 victory over TK Teahouse.

In Group ‘A’, Aries Raymundo Castro registered a monstrous 46 points to guide Bujang Senang to a 74-71 victory over And One.

Meanwhile, Pegasus enjoyed a 99-51 victory over CBA to set the tone in Group ‘C’ while Yi’s Nation survived a tense final few minutes to secure a close 71-68 victory over Setia Warriors in Group ‘D’.

The women’s category also tipped off with Systematic sending a message of intent of their title aspirations with a 62-52 victory over Le Doux Patisserie.

The competition continues today with Tutong Basketball taking on Wang’s Kitchen in Group ‘D’ while Shooting Star face Stratus Development Sdn Bhd in the women’s category.

The meet has attracted an encouraging response in this year’s edition with the participation of 20 men’s teams and five women’s teams.

Organised by the Brunei Basketball Association, the leading men’s teams will be looking to book a spot in the final tomorrow for an opportunity to win the title.
